Anang Saptoto (born 1982) is an artist, designer and activist living in Yogyakarta. He completed his education at the Visual Communication Design Department, Yogyakarta Vision Design Academy (2000-05), and at the Television Department, Faculty of Record Media Arts, Yogyakarta Indonesian Art Institute (2002-09). His collaborative practice focuses on ecology and social change. He uses art as a tool to ask questions that can open new possibilities for collaboration. His process of developing new work often begins by holding a public workshop in the area. He supports environmental and human rights movements and often collaborates with children, schools, disabled communities and social organizations in the community. For him, this is a way to observe and adapt to what he wants to learn. Interacting directly, building solidarity and collaborating are ways that he considers to be very important as an act of art. Customers 4.0
Anang Saptoto, photographic print on photo paper, edition 10, 65 x 50 cm, 2020
This is a documentary photo of a customer who bought vegetables from an online shop Panen apa hari ini (PARI)/(What we are harvesting today). I processed the photos to combine the customers with the items they bought. This is a marketing strategy, a way to make my customers happy. For me, customer satisfaction is the main thing I want to take care of. My customers are happy, PARI is happy :)
About Panen apa hari ini
What are we harvesting today (PARI) is a collaboration between art and agriculture. PARI began this collaboration with Pak Ustad Sofyan, Mas Aulya Noer Rahmat and other residents in Kulonprogo. In the future, PARI will build networks with farmers in other regions. This collaboration is expected to be able to study space and study agriculture and living space together - PARI values developing distribution chains through works of art and creativity. PARI hopes we can all be empowered and work together to realize local food security.
