Arwin Hidayat was born in Yogyakarta in 1983. He graduated from Indonesian Institute of the Art, Yogyakarta, and for several years, was the studio assistant of well-known indonesian artist, Eko Nugroho. Arwin combines primitive and contemporary motifs for his works on paper and in his paintings, and also folk art inspired unique batik pieces. Although many of his works are inspired by his personal experiences and thoughts, his practice can be seen in a subtle manner to pose questions about the socio-economic and moral situation in Indonesia.
